Covanah Community Development is a housing and community growth corporation dedicated to fostering inclusive and sustainable living environments. Covanah wishes to bring about positive transformations in communities through innovative housing solutions, strategic planning, and impactful social programs.

As the fourth logo in my series to redesign the real estate industry, Covanah did not come as “easy” as the others. My first round of design fell flat with unbalanced forms and an underwhelming theme. I went back to the sketchbook after more research, mind mapping, and discovery to create this: an icon packed with meaning into a convenient square.

My mind mapping started with development, building, and growth. This prompted the right angle shape for the D. Conveniently, triangles are the sturdiest form for building as well. I wanted to get CD in the square shape, so I tried a few different layouts to make the C work and landed on this curved form. In further development, you can now make out a propulsion form in the negative space to signify the launching of new communities with the focus on sustainability and inclusion, circling back to the growth narrative from the mind mapping and aligning with the brief.
